The singularity is being studied by Google

I just came across Matt Cutts blogpost about Google’s “big ideas”. Interesting to hear from an insider about some of the more esoteric initiatives from the big boys. Since Larry Page was in our awesome “Human Augmentation” session in Davos this year (which Adam Bly moderated), I wonder if Google might add exoskeleton research and storing your brain in a computer as new initiatives.

But here’s one big idea I’d love to learn more about – the programme at the Singularity University, which according to Cutts is a big idea sponsored by Google:

Singularity University aims to assemble, educate and inspire a cadre of leaders who strive to understand and facilitate the development of exponentially advancing technologies and apply, focus and guide these tools to address humanity’s grand challenges. (link to overview)

Hold on, you mean I can go to a NASA campus, hang out with Ray Kurzweil, learn about nanotechnology, neuroscience and complex systems and ultimately help develop interdiscipliniary approaches to global challenges? Sign me up! Oh, wait. I’ll need $25k. Anyone want to sponsor me??
